Didn't know they were halal certified, until I've collected my order. Despite without fatty pork nor lard bits, this still is a very delicious hokkien mee. Eggy garlicky fragrance. Not a very strong prawn stock used but they seasoned their noodle heavily and simmered long enough to soak up all that flavours. Forget about top up $1 for additional egg. All you'll actually get is overdone scrambled eggs.

I did not realized that it is halal Hokkien mee until I walked past the stall again. It was flavorful, moist, good texture noodles and the Sambal chilli was really good. 5-star for being so tasty despite not cooking with the traditional ingredients. 👍

Came during off-peak hours, had a short waitlist. Chinese uncle and auntie no longer manning the stall. Malay auntie cooked my plate of prawn noodles. Too much yellow noodles were used. Noodles were soggy. Sotong was overcooked. Not recommended. The smallest plate is now $5. Ps. Chilli and chef are no longer the same as before, but the old awards and signboard are still being displayed. They should be taken down to avoid giving customers the wrong impression.

The original bedok corner hokkien mee was one of the all time greats. It always commanded a long steady queue and was helmed by an old man frying the noodles who would do so batch by batch in a smooth symphony that only experience can yield. A few years back, the stall changed hands and i assume the owner retired as he was quite old. Someone else took over and changed it to a halal store. The queues disappeared and I still tried it when it first opened. And it was actually good in the initial period. Not quite as good as the OG master but they have learnt their lesson well and I would say 80% as good. The noodles were known for being “wet style” with good wok hey and they mostly replicated it. But i have visited the stall on and off over the past 2 years, and sad to say, standards have steadily dropped over time. In my most recent visit, it was actually bad. I got a clump of noodle with a pool of broth. The broth was actually flavorful but the noodles hadn’t infused the flavor. It was like they premade the broth, did some perfunctory stirfry and passed you the dish. On it’s own, it wasn’t bad, and there were hints of what made this stall legendary. But the passion that comes with frying hkm has long gone, and the plate, whilst maybe passble if you judge it as a generic random hkm stall, is a sad fall from grace from what used to be (imo) top 5 hkm in SG and easily the best example of “wet style” hkm. This is now a generic hkm stall. And that’s a great pity.
