Brought my mom to have dinner at Downtown East and decided to give Segar a try. Was really pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Ordered Assam Fish Tail, Prawn Paste Chicken, Three Egg Spinach, Hotplate Beancurd and Hot Crispy Noodle for the kid. Overall standard was really good. Especially the Assam Fish Tail and the Prawn Paste Chicken. The prawn paste chicken is so far the better one I’ve eaten. (Better than Ah Tan Wings imho) Price was also very reasonable for a sit down restaurant in an aircon mall. Assam Fish Tail for $26 and 12pieces of Prawn paste chicken for $18. Would definitely come again.

Like their curry fish head. The rest taste ok but portion rather small maybe due to chinese new year season.

Their curry fish head is satisfying and savoury. I would opt for the assam version which is more sour. The fish was soft and tender. I've been to this place twice and I would believe they are quite consistent. One of the better restaurants in Downtown East, in my opinion.

Don't underestimate this zi char restaurant because they have a halal certificate! It is actually convenient to bring our moslem friends to eat chinese foods together in this place. The foods are generally above the average and the drinks are refreshing. The sweet and sour fish is on par with the high class chinese food restaurant. The taste is balanced and the fish slices are good. The only problem is only the large portion is actually quite small (so it is quite expensive). The crab meat beancurd is unique and delicious. It is basically a toufu with a crab meat thick soup. You must try it. The sambal kangkong is one of the best that I tried in Singapore. The crispy egg noodle and egg fu yong are average. The nasi goreng madness is below my expectation. The chicken satay and sambal is good but the nasi goreng itself is below standard (compare to the chinese's style or indonesia's style). The lemongrass tea is one of the most balanced that I taste in Singapore, light and refreshing!
