Meant to take a bus to Balestier Market for lunch today but boarded a wrong bus and ended up in Toa Payoh instead. Which was a fantastic coincidence since I remember reading about a review of the fried carrot cake at this hawker centre. Unfortunately, the stall owner was frying an entire batch of carrot cake with chilli and was not able to entertain my request for no chilli. No worries. Walked around a bit and saw Liza Nasi Padang. Next to fried carrot cake, nasi padang is another dish that I can never say 'no' to. Ordered their sambal goreng, sayur lodeh and curry chicken thigh. The vegetables in the sayur lodeh were over cooked to the extend of them being soft which was fine by me but might not be to everyone's taste. The sambal goreng was just right and not too spicy and the curry chicken was tender and tore off easily from the bone. The stall owner generously drizzled the curry chicken gravy all over my rice. The taste of the rice mixed with the gravy was heavenly. Total damage was $6.50. Definitely recommended for nasi padang lovers.
